Birdland Jazz Club
It’s so great we have a world-class Jazz Club in Hell’s Kitchen! So many fabulous musicians swingin' at Birdland, where anywhere you sit is a great seat. The acoustics, food and drinks are all tops. I’ve been enthralled by musicians there so many times and come out singing. Susie Mosher’s shows are a hoot.

International Grocery
International Grocery is a spot where you can buy spices, dried herbs, olive oils, grains... Wonderful staff there, too! It’s part of what I call "The 9th Avenue Shopping Triumvirate" with Esposito’s Meat Market and Sea Breeze Fish Market.

Poulette Rotisserie Chicken
Truth be told I don’t physically go to Poulette, but I do order delivery from there a lot. The rotisserie chicken is so good, and their sides range from healthy (green beans and mushrooms!) to maybe not so healthy (yes, mac and cheese!). Always prompt delivery — it’s comfort food, what’s not to like?

Tim Ho Wan
The dim sum at Tim Ho Wan is cooked to order! The chef's special is always worth a try and the sesame-balls for dessert are filled with sweet yellow custard.

HOLY GHOST Barber Shop
Carlos (small biz owner and lead barber) is the best! By managing his clients on a text-friendly, easy communication order, he welcomes you into his shop and makes you feel good while leaving with a fresh fade or cut of choice.

Style on J
It was put to me that my wardrobe was, um, not really helping me. I am a T-shirt-and-jeans guy, but there’s a limit. I mean, I have stuff from 20 years ago! I needed new clothes. I met the manager, Jason, years ago when he was working at a clothing store in Chelsea, and amazingly, the guy still remembers me. He steered me in the right direction, back in the day and now. Very insightful. I’m 51. I need to learn how to package that correctly.

VIV Thai
Of all the amazing Thai places in HK, this one is my favorite. The fun ambiance and great staff, plus delicious food and Lychee martinis!

Russian Samovar Restaurant and Piano Bar
This classic Russian restaurant is one of my favorite restaurants in the city, ever. They have a super old-school vibe with moody ambience, dark oak furniture and fun trinkets / paintings decorating the walls. On the weekends and Friday evenings, they have live musicians and pianists who play classic Soviet era music. The food there is really high quality — I love their lamb racks. They also make their own flavor-infused vodka ranging from sweet to savory. My personal favorite flavor is the horseradish, which might sound weird but it’s really good!! I NEVER leave this place without getting the honey cake “medovik” for dessert though — hands down one of the best cakes EVER.

Ariana Afghan Restaurant
I’ve been coming here with my family ever since I can remember and we’ve developed a lovely friendship with the owner, Wali. He’s the best and truly makes incredible food. Get the firnee for dessert!
