I love the smell of pies and cakes baking as it swirls through the air when I walk by. Since switching to a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle, I don’t stop in as often as I used to — but when I want to treat myself, I indulge in their raisin bran muffins.

The Vanilla Gorilla Cafe is my go-to coffee shop for meeting up with friends. It’s spacious and bright with great beverages and bakery treats. My current favorite is the Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea.

Magick Balay, the demonstrator and owner of Don’t Blink Magic Shop, has such incredible energy! He is so keen to show anybody who walks through the door amazing close-up magic.

There is a new location for this Italian restaurant at Silver Towers, and I am obsessed with their $7 breakfast special of a pastry and the coffee. The elderly mother of a neighbor described their Pain au Chocolate as "elegant," and when I had it for the first time, I could not agree more. I am also into their focaccia. I am spoiled that this is right near where I live, so it's a good location for a quick late night bite before bed when I've had a long day campaigning.

Their $16 Siesta Lunch Special is one of the finest deals in the neighborhood. My rotating order includes the lamb barbacoa braised in Negra Modelo with salsa borracha and serrano chilies, the crispy Gulf shrimp taco with guacamole, pico de gallo, and the beer-battered mahi mahi with poblano slaw and lime aioli on a flour tortilla. Bright, satisfying and always a treat.

A Black owned juice and smoothie shop?? YES PLEASE!!! Fresh From Hell is great, from their acai bowls to their fresh juices and smoothies. This place keeps me feeling good and healthy! And did I mention that it’s Black owned?!

This late night restaurant and bar makes specialty cocktails, has yummy bottomless brunch (if you choose) and lots of space for throwing parties — which I’ve done a few times.

In the last year or so I have become really conscious of my food choices as I prioritize my health and wellness. Ceviche is a sleeper hit when it comes to macros. Kausa delivers delicious Peruvian food (including a variety of ceviches and tostones), wonderful staff, great outdoor seating and great value! Love this spot!

This shop is an absolute gem for finding unique, NYC-inspired gifts for any occasion. Every holiday or birthday, I love stopping by to pick up a fun mug, quirky magnet, stylish candle, or some other unforgettable find.
