Chez Josephine

If you want to feel totally transported out of Hell’s Kitchen for a bit, Chez Josephine is your spot. Great French food, a live piano player, and gorgeous, richly decorated interiors. Feels like I’m stepping into another city and time.

I love Josephine’s, it's a nice treat. I have a neighbor who plays piano there at lunchtime, and I will go watch her and chat with her on her break.

I like that Chez Josephine is open on Monday for one thing! And that Josephine Baker’s adopted son — one of 13 — Jean-Claude, RIP, opened it.

Never had a bad meal here. It’s a go-to place when I have guests in town. In fact, many of my repeat houseguests request to put it on their to-do list when in NYC. I miss Jean-Claude, who seemed to fit right in the decor and ambiance and enjoyed seating us in the window. I especially enjoy the live piano on certain nights.

Wonderful atmosphere, live music, fantastic staff and great food. It transports you to Paris in an instant.

It’s such an utterly charming place to grab dinner. You feel as though you’ve stepped into another world. The restaurant and its beautiful paintings and homages to Josephine Baker adorn the walls. There’s this lovely romantic lighting and ambiance, and it offers French staples with live piano music.

Live music and good food and great atmosphere!

Good food. And I enjoy the piano players.

I love its classic charm and the legacy Jean Claude left behind. I have so many special memories in that restaurant.
