Birdland Jazz Club

It’s so great we have a world-class Jazz Club in Hell’s Kitchen! So many fabulous musicians swingin' at Birdland, where anywhere you sit is a great seat. The acoustics, food and drinks are all tops. I’ve been enthralled by musicians there so many times and come out singing. Susie Mosher’s shows are a hoot. 

I’ve known about Birdland forever, thanks to an obsession with The Manhattan Transfer’s song about it when I was in junior high. The fact that I ended up performing weekly at the “Jazz Corner of the World” is truly a thrill, and I am so grateful to the universe for granting me my wish.

We love that Jim Caruso has brought the best of Broadway and beyond to Birdland for so many years to do their hair up, let their hair down, and do what they love to do. Performers gotta perform!

Not only have I performed my solo show here many times, but on Monday nights, Jim Caruso’s Cast Party is one of my favorite New York City events. A weekly, joyous, surprise-filled open mic night. Some of the greatest performers in the world will jump up and perform and, as Jim Caruso says, “also…other people.” I have been going for, no joke, TWENTY YEARS. I was at the very first one Jim ever held and have been popping in to hang out with friends and sing ever since.

Love to catch great jazz at Birdland. I love that I met one of my good friends there years ago at a Lisa Fischer show and also recently spent Valentine’s Day there on a special date watching great jazz. The service is excellent and the old fashioneds are absolutely delicious.

Best Jazz on earth?

It’s an iconic Theater District jazz club. It has a very nostalgic feeling to it that harkens back to another time. You can always hear amazing jazz musicians there, along with great musical acts.

Love live music? Love jazz? This is the place to go. Birdland has a selection of performances nightly to suit anyone’s taste. The talented musicians that play here are top notch. Come for the jazz and bring an appetite, as their food is delicious and their cocktails are expertly made. It’s a great experience, from the time you are escorted in, to the end of the performance. It is one of my big recommendations when anyone asks what they should do while in the area.

I love living on the same block as such a sophisticated, historic music venue. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing a wide range of acts there, including Lisa Fischer, Darius de Haas, Linda Lavin, Christian Holder, and of course Jim Caruso’s Cast Party.

Not only do they have the best cabaret dressing rooms in town, but The Lineup with Susie Mosher on Tuesday nights is a MUST!

The music, the history, the people… also the fries are AMAZING!
