Amy's Bread

I buy bread from both Amy's and Sullivan Street on a pretty equal basis. Amy's tends to offer a wider selection of breads and sweet things, like their unique "twists". Sullivan Street's Pugliese is crusty on the outside and softer on the inside. In short, I go to Amy's for variety and Sullivan Street for mouth-feel.

Amy's feels like coming home. I've been going to Amy's since I was in elementary school at Midtown West, stopping by in the morning with my parents and friends for a creamy soft dinner roll. They have everything you could ever want, savory and sweet. And it always smells amazing in there! One of my favorite places to sit with a book.

I don't think there has been a matinee day in many years when I haven't stopped into Amy's beforehand to get a sandwich and/or something sweet to bring to the theater with me. The trick is to catch them before a crowd of tourists clogs the place since it is rather small, but always worth the wait.

The chocolate sourdough twist at Amy’s are my go-to. Never mind that their bread and pastries are absolutely delicious, they also donate their leftover bread every day to the Hell’s Kitchen Community Cupboard so that we can share it with our neighbors. How amazing is that?

What’s not to love about Amy’s? I mean really, everything from baguettes to breakfast to birthday cakes — Amy’s is my go-to place. Throughout the Pandemic we would saunter down to visit Paul and buy, every seven to 10 days, what we called our “happy cake” — a simply fabulous yellow cake with pink frosting. We credit Amy’s Bread with helping get us through the isolation of the pandemic, along with some loving neighbors and friends.

Pretty much THE BEST in the city. I was there day one and keep going back. They have an interesting selection, keep up with the times and everything is fresh. It’s one of the very first pearls to hit the neighborhood, years back — which I appreciate to no end.

I’m a sucker for a bakery, and Amy’s has always had a special place in my heart. From their black-and-white cake to their chocolate sourdough twists to their cherry cream scones, count me in!

Amy’s Bread brings an honest soul to Hell’s Kitchen. You can feel the halo coming through the windows and onto the sidewalk. It draws you in.

Self explanatory! And they have great hot chocolate.

Well, she has the best bread and her twists are super too. I love it as a place to meet for meetings. Coffee, twist and discussing projects! (But I miss the cinnamon raisin twists…)

Where can you get a fresh challah on Shabbat in Hell’s Kitchen? Amy’s Bread of course! Whenever my Mom comes in from Ohio she heads straight there first! It’s a neighborhood staple.

Amy’s Bread has held a special place on my list of all-time favorites throughout my years in NYC. Whether celebrating an accomplishment or seeking a pick-me-up during challenging times, it remains my go-to spot. Countless artist dates with friends have been joyfully spent at this charming haven. Amy’s Bread embodies everything I cherish about New York City — the perfect blend of comfort, creativity, and community.

I have a huge sweet tooth and Amy’s Bread is the perfect cure. The pink cake is my absolute favorite. It’s so moist, and they’re generous with the frosting. LOVE. Almost 20 years ago, they used to make cinnamon raisin twists. Wow — talk about a treat!

I also feel like I’m in a movie when I go to Amy’s Bread — because it feels like a setting in every NYC romantic comedy I’ve ever seen.

Amy’s well crafted pastries make me so happy! They have amazing breads, sandwiches and coffee. I love how it’s so cozy in there too, it’s one of my favorite stops on a cold day. They just celebrated their 30th year anniversary too, how wonderful is that? Happy anniversary Amy’s Bread!

The most heavenly breads in NYC!

Amy’s Bread was and still is such an impactful part of my life. Amy is one of the most genuine people I’ve ever met. And there’s cake! What else do you need? 

It has the hospitality of a small town, really yummy croissants and strong coffee, and all the items on its menu are delicious.

This is where Andrew and I went for dessert on our first date. We try to celebrate there every year. I love everything there but my favorites are the pistachio twist and brioche toast.

Last year they celebrated their 30th anniversary. Excellent bread.

I went in daily during the pandemic just to say hi and thank them for being open. There's nothing an Amy's Coconut Dream Bar can't fix.

I can’t get enough of the cheese biscuits and they have one of the nicest staffs in town.

I used to go in for the treats and now I go in to talk to Paul. A quick trip turns into a 20-minute gabfest and I love it. And the tuna melt is back!

If I could, I would eat the cherry cream scones for breakfast, the carrot cake for lunch, and the cinnamon challah knots for dinner. Oh, and don't let me forget the chocoholic twists at cocktail hour!

This little dessert heaven is my favorite go-to cake shop. I love their German chocolate cake and carrot cake. The cakes from Amy's always put a huge smile on my face.
