El Mil Sabores Mexican Food

The authentic Mexican food and grocery spot is a gem buried in plain sight on 9th Ave. It’s family-run, so when you get your chicken soup on a sick day, don’t be surprised if one of the kids politely hands your order over.

I recently discovered El Mil Sabores which means “a thousand tastes or flavors” in English. I’m a proud Mexican American — back in Cali we had the most authentic Mexican food, which has been hard to find in NYC until I found this place. They even have cans of el pato sauce, which is something I have been cooking with ever since I can remember!

With homemade tamales, a range of canned goods and fresh baked delights, can’t go wrong. Plus the people who run it are some of the nicest folks I’ve met here

Ok, so I’m partial to Mexican cuisine and culture! This gem run by Eruvey Mendosa is frequented by the locals who know tacos to tamales. Besides serving three meals daily, they stock key staples and fresh-baked goods, and one of their chorizo meals accompanied by horchata can transform a day.
