Clinton Community Garden

It’s so pretty, and outdoor space is a premium, plus a garden is just a major bonus in this neighborhood! And I have a key.

Epically serene. We used to live on 48th and 9th so we had a key which was the absolute best! Now we live down a little further so we don’t have a key but when the gates are open to the public I’m there! It’s so private and lush!

It’s an oasis in midtown. My husband Tony and I have had a plot there for over 15 years. I like feeding the birds, seeing the bees, smelling all the flowers…

It’s such a nice escape in the middle of all the madness, so close to Times Square. I served on the Steering Committee and was Chairman for a few years. But the garden itself and some of the people I’ve met there have enhanced my HK experience. I snag a deli sandwich and have lunch there on a weekday, when no one is there. I still have a plot for my homegrown herbs and peppers.

We were on the wait list for a back garden plot for seven years. This beautiful spot feels somewhat hidden, along W48th street close to 10th Avenue. Anyone can visit the front garden when it is open and can buy a key for it for when no members are around to mind the gate. I’ve now been planting vegetables and volunteering there for six years. And have introduced the idea of gardening to my daughter. It is a wonderful oasis amidst the rush of the city.

This is the perfect spot to sit and take in the beautiful plants and flowers, read a book or close your eyes and meditate for a few minutes. It’s such a peaceful garden in the middle of the block, you feel like you’re in a magical break from it all.

Green and serene.

A haven in the middle of our busy neighborhood. Behind the scenes, the garden is well-run and seamlessly governed. I love the annual sale of honey made by our very own Hell’s Kitchen bees.

It's tranquil and lovely. I always feel revived after spending even just a few minutes on the garden bench. 

I love watching people garden and picnic. This is such an amazing place to enjoy a respite from all the chaos and even turn a stranger to a friend. Have you had their honey?! It’s a fantastic locally sourced product.

When I walk by the garden during the day, and if I have time to stop for a few moments, it’s a peaceful respite that’s filled with beautiful flowers. I didn’t know the history behind the garden until recently. It was created in 1978 by Hell’s Kitchen residents who cleared out the rubble from a long-vacant lot and began planting it with flowers, herbs, fruits, and vegetables.

It’s the closest thing around to the Garden of Eden and it’s right here in Hell’s Kitchen.

I just received my first key. It feels very Notting Hill. Now I don’t have to throw Artie over and climb the fence. JK — sort of.

I adore the Community Garden. Spending time in the presence of so many beautiful trees and plants, not to mention birds and bees, is good for my soul. Even when the garden was locked during the pandemic, I would go and gaze at it through the fence, and those moments of just resting my eyes on plant life were good for my mental health. Having this green sanctuary just down the block is an incredible gift.

It’s like a little secret slice of heaven — magical and quiet and serene. Something about it seems too good to be true. You don’t often find places like this in New York City.
