Public boating facility offering free kayaking, canoeing, and waterfront access to Hudson River recreation. This volunteer-run organization provides equipment, instruction, and guided tours, making water sports accessible to all community members regardless of experience or economic background.

Manhattan Community Boathouse

Last but certainly not least, free kayaking at Manhattan Community Boathouse should be on everyone’s to-do list for the summer! I’ve paddled at Pier 96 for over 10 years and after moving up to W51st was excited to be within walking distance of the boathouse. After visiting on a few consecutive weekends I was asked to volunteer and eventually worked my way up to being Treasurer of the Board. It is a great place to cool off in the summer, is staffed entirely by volunteers and funded solely by public donations!

Love, love, love kayaking on the Hudson. I’ve been doing it for many years. The Manhattan Community Boathouse is volunteer-based, they provide excellent service and are so nice. It makes me happy that they provide this wonderful service to the community.

I love going there, especially now that it’s getting warm. We wandered over there and found these kayaks and couldn’t believe it was free. Suddenly we were kayaking in the middle of the Hudson!

I love the Hudson River and Hudson River Park. I’m on CB4’s Waterfront, Parks & Environment Committee and I know how precious green spaces are here in HK. We are so lucky to have access to great outdoor spaces nearby.

The free kayaking at Pier 96 has been a summer highlight for our family. The Hell’s Kitchen skyline looks beautiful from out on the water. Such a great activity on a hot day. I’m looking forward to the renovation of Pier 97 as well.
