It’s a throwback to the days of Paddy’s Market. Walk in the door, and you are back into the 1940s. The scent of the spice bins is heavenly, but the best is when you order a chunk of feta cheese, and the wonderful attendant carves off a little piece of cheese, balances it on the tip of the knife blade, and extends it to you to taste. It’s such a charming moment!

This store is a throwback to the old 9th Avenue, a savory snapshot from years gone by. I love their Greek specialties — stuffed grape leaves, taramasalata, bean salads, feta cheese. It's where I buy my nuts, olives, spices, coffee and olive oil. And the guys who work there are the best.

The spice bins, good cheese, the Taramasalata — yum yum yum!

International Grocery is a spot where you can buy spices, dried herbs, olive oils, grains... Wonderful staff there, too! It’s part of what I call "The 9th Avenue Shopping Triumvirate" with Esposito’s Meat Market and Sea Breeze Fish Market.

Marietta LaFargue
The staff is wonderful and very supportive with great suggestions for what’s good that day. The Taramasalata is the best in the city and the olives are the best in town as well.

Entering and seeing barrels of aromatic spices and foods from around the world would make anyone happy. It’s an international treasure without the airport hassle.

Old School. Still get my spices there. Just feels like you’re walking into a place your grandmother shopped at. A certain magic and amazing dips!

The minute I come in I’m hit with the aroma of spices from around the world. I run to the back case to see if they have any of my quinoa olive salad. And I love the homemade almond cake!

We love buying olives, cheese and loose spices here. The owner now spends a lot of time in Greece, but the guys who have worked here for over 20 years treat it like their own business. We love their hospitality.

It smells like you just traveled across the globe, and the people are very friendly. Not to mention the tasty products.

I love this place, specifically for Taramasalata. They also make their own baklava. I also buy olive oil there because they have a couple of olive oils that are dependable and just fantastic.

I’m transported to another country. The clerks have been the same for years. The owners are consistent. The food and novelties are the best and the fresh fish market is right next door!

Orietta Crispino
It’s a 30-year-old small establishment. Spices, olive oil, cheeses, and the best hummus! I cook so it’s important to get access to specialty ingredients… and such a joy to admire foods from around the world all under the same roof.

One of my very first go-to food stores. I enjoy cooking and could find a lot there: Greek and European specialties and exotic spices. I would buy French cheese when it was still difficult to find in the neighborhood.

Reminds me of all the things my Greek mother used to make

It is like being in the souk in Marrakech. Many spices come in bulk, the smell is divine and the quality is exceptional. Plus the owner offered me a job 40 years ago when I did not have a visa yet. That lifted my spirits for days.

It has an old-world charm, bins of fresh spices and grains, preserved Meyer lemons, olives, fresh baklava, dolmas, and coffee. Try the Greek feta, it makes a great salad!
