The Salvation Army

I’m into flipping furniture — you know, taking pieces from the Salvation Army and giving them a fresh coat of paint. It’s like a little DIY project that turns out pretty cool.

It’s great now that they have an elevator — although I did enjoy looking at the framed cartoons in the stairwell on the way up. I’m always on the prowl for clothing I’d never wear in real life, but is perfect for the courtroom on Law and Order or a gala in Daredevil.

It hasn’t changed since I originally moved to HK 36 years ago! Great for finding music, clothes, sometimes furniture and dropping off things I don’t need any longer, knowing they will be put to further use.

Our Salvation Army is the best. You’ll see everything there from Pucci, Prada, Old Navy to Zara. White tags mean the item is 99 cents. A great mix of people too — students, artists, resellers, stylists, vintage hunters and immigrants with vouchers.

I love shopping here and I love giving here. And it’s a miracle that it’s survived and I hope it will always find a home here in HK.
